The Oldest Watch Brands

Luxury timepieces are now being hailed as one of the few products to defy global recessions. Their popularity has been highlighted by films such as Skyfall, celebrity gifts and endorsements such as Jay Z’s $5million birthday watch to wife Beyonce and the steady rise of luxury watch sales in China. New interest has also grown over recent years in not just the women’s market but also pre-owned watches to combat times of austerity. Recent figures claim that brand new Swiss luxury watches turned over an impressive $14 billion in 2012. The oldest watch brands date back to the mid 1700s and it was these brands which paved the way for the billion dollar industry which we see today. These are just a few.

Vacheron Constantin

Founded in 1755, Vacheron Constantin is one of oldest Swiss watch manufacturers in the world. As you can see from this image, the watches are masterfully crafted to create beautiful timepieces with heritage and class. Their motto has always been ‘Do better if possible and that is always possible’ which is reflected in their commitment to the highest levels of customer service. Watches issued as far back as 1755 can be repaired, overhauled or restored with precision to ensure that each individual timepiece is met with the same set of high standards. In 2013, heritage is mixed with modern requests as three new women’s collections are being introduced – Patrimony, Malte Lady and Metiers d’Art with vibrant, floral faces

Patek Philippe

Patek Philippe has made a name for itself as supplying beautiful timepieces to royalty including Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and the King of Denmark. To commemorate his 150th anniversary, Patek Philippe created the Calibre 89, one of the most complicated watches ever made. Amongst its 39 complications, the watch included the time of sunrise and even accounted for leap years. The brand was founded by two Polish immigrants, Antoni Patek and Francois Czapek in 1839. Patek handled the business side of things whilst Czapek was the talented watch maker. It was renamed in 1932 when it was bought by Charles and Jean Stern who called the business ‘Patek Philippe S.A’. Today, these luxury watches and many more are viewed as a valuable commodity as well as a functional piece of beauty
